Close to Boston

Dartmouth is only 1 hour south of Boston, home of famous championship sports teams like the Celtics (basketball), Bruins (ice hockey), and Red Sox (baseball).

Sports Utilities

Corsair athletes at UMass Dartmouth enjoy an artificial surface multi-sports field, grass practice fields, baseball/softball fields, an intercollegiate track and field complex, and new tennis courts.

Providence and New Bedford

Dartmouth is only 35 minutes from Providence, the capital of Rhode Island and home to the world-famous WaterFire art experience, and 15 minutes from New Bedford, a historic whaling city.

The UMass Dartmouth Campus is located on the south coast of Massachusetts in the town of Dartmouth. Outdoor Adventure:

Dartmouth is near some of the best beaches on the East Coast. The closest beach is only 15 minutes away, as are popular tourist destinations such as Cape Cod and the island of Martha’s Vineyard; which have been favourites of several US presidents. The local area also offers many opportunities for outdoor activities like hiking, beach walking, whale watching, golf, ice hockey, mountain biking, sailing and kayaking that many students take advantage of through the UMass Dartmouth Outdoor Club.


Within 1.6 kilometres of campus, you’ll find everything you need; with a variety of stores, shopping centers and a local mall with a 12-screen luxury movie theatre. Dartmouth also features traditional American cuisine as well as culturally diverse restaurants serving food from all over the world.


Dartmouth has a wonderfully diverse climate with warm summers, cold winters and mild spring and fall temperatures. Dartmouth residents enjoy average temperatures of 80°F (26°C) during the summer months. Spring and fall scenery in New England is second to none, with temperatures ranging from 50°F to 60°F (8°C–17°C). Temperatures average around 40°F (4°C) over the winter months.
